Have you ever heard of galangal? No? Well, you don’t have to know what it is. But you really should taste it if you get the chance! Galangal is an Asian plant of the ginger family and thus a spice to which healing powers are attributed – to treat bacterial infections or indigestion, for example. Fresh galangal root plays a major role in Thai cooking. It smells of citrus and pine, and it tastes like ginger, pepper and lemon.

Galangal is usually used in dried slices or as a ground powder and it is indispensable in Thailand for soups or for the famous Thai curry paste.
